This medical thriller book may not be Crichton’s best-known novel, but it’s certainly worth a read. Once one of the leading minds in the field of forensics, Lincoln Rhyme has all but retired from the police force after an accident left him a quadriplegic. Until, that is, a diabolical killer seemingly challenges him to a battle of wits.
We Told Six Lies is about a girl who is kidnapped and her boyfriend is the lead suspect. The whole story is quite disturbing and only gets worse as the book goes on. While the book is really well written and all pieces come together very well, the storyline is not my favorite. It was a book that I was not able to put down until I had found out what had happened and was not disappointed by the ending. Overall I would recommend this book for a more mature teen reader because of how disturbing it is. I would have given it 5 stars but I feel like the description is a little misleading.
It’s one of the most well-known books of all time and is the reason I fell in love with suspenseful books. Crime thrillers are perhaps one of the most popular types of thriller books, and for good reason. These options lead from crime – be they murders, disappearances, or so much more – giving the author a chance to explore the impacts of such crimes and the race to solve it.
While neither character is particularly likable, the cold, frightening portrayal of a relationship on its last legs is sure to keep you on the edge of your seat. A former secret agent himself, John le Carré crafts thrilling spy novels thanks to his unique insider knowledge. In “The Spy Who Came in From the Cold,” le Carré focuses on the shadowy practices of international espionage. The story is about a British intelligence agent who’s desperate to leave the profession, but must undertake one final, risky assignment involving East Germany before he’s granted his freedom. In “Behind Closed Doors,” Jack and Grace have the picture-perfect marriage—at least on the outside. What’s happening when no one else is looking, however, is an entirely different story. An all too realistic suspenseful thriller, this book has nearly 300,000 ratings on Goodreads.
So you can imagine how fake of a fan I felt like when I only realized last year that, yes, there is a book. It gives more insight into the story and the inner workings of Hannibal Lecter’s mind, and with Anthony Hopkin’s portrayal of him inevitably playing in your head as you read, it doesn’t get much better than this. One of two Gillian Flynn novels on this list, this bestseller follows the mysterious disappearance of picture-perfect wife Amy Dunne and her husband Nick, who seems to be guilty of her murder. But the story that seems obvious is nowhere close to the truth.Gone Girlwas adapted into the acclaimed 2014 film starring Ben Affleck, Rosamund Pike, and Neil Patrick Harris. This hypnotic novel packs an unexpected twist as it follows a woman named Jessica Farris who enters into a psychological study to earn extra money. The experiments are led by Dr. Shields, who soon takes the study beyond the lab, infiltrating Jessica’s real life.
As of 2020, Graham Green’s spy novel “Our Man in Havana” has been adapted into a movie, an opera, and a stage production. A satirical story, it follows an MI6 man, a former vacuum cleaner salesman turned secret agent, who dislikes his job and files bogus reports out of spite.
When Amy Dunne disappears on her and her husband Nick’s fifth wedding anniversary, everyone’s baffled. As the pressure mounts, Nick starts to crack, but it remains to be seen whether he’s seriously stressed or has something to hide. As a child, Abby has a recurring nightmare in which she wanders through a field of human bones. And just before her wedding to Willem, the dream returns with a vengeance. As she lies in her hospital bed, Willem must find out whether it was intentional act, and why she keeps waking up screaming. Now, Lindsay is discovering that Edie may have been murdered…and that she might have had something to do with it. Let me guess…you were supposed to read this in high school but you opted to skim the SparkNotes version instead.
The book focuses on their lives after the murder of Simon Kelleher and not as much of them trying to solve the murder. While I really do like the way it explains the details of their lives, I just found it a bit misleading.
Perhaps one of the most-hyped releases of 2021, Girl A became an instant bestseller in both the UK and the USA when it was released in January. Dark and shocking, it follows Lex – dubbed by the media as “Girl A” – the only one of six children who managed to escape their parents’ House of Horrors. When her mother dies in prison, Lex must reconcile with her siblings and decide what to do with the home that was once their prison.
